SUMMARY:An Evening with Jimmy Sturr
DESCRIPTION:During 2025’s visit last year\nThe Florida Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome back the legendary Jimmy Sturr for “Jimmy Sturr Part II\,” an event that proved just as memorable and successful as last year’s inaugural gathering. \nAlthough the day began cool and overcast\, skies cleared to create the perfect backdrop for an evening by the pool. The program opened on a patriotic note\, with singer Doug Perony leading the crowd in “God Bless America.” Emcees Donna and Terra kept the evening lively\, engaging the audience with trivia questions about Jimmy Sturr. Guests with the correct answers walked away with a variety of fun prizes. \nA highlight of the evening was a guided tour of Jimmy’s barn\, home to an impressive collection of memorabilia. Sturr himself shared stories from his decades on the road\, recalling the many states where he has performed and the celebrated artists who have joined him along the way—including Bobby Vinton\, Willie Nelson\, Boots Randolph\, Ray Price\, and Jay Siegel. Siegel\, who attended the evening\, delighted the audience with an impromptu performance of the classic hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” \nThe event brought together attendees of all ages—from a teenager whose younger sister is a devoted fan\, to the eldest guest\, who proudly celebrated at age 99. Guests were treated to a display of a few of Sturr’s remarkable 18 Grammy Awards\, as well as a glimpse into his astonishing personal collection of 12\,000 polka LPs. When asked how many people had the Jimmy Sturr Orchestra play at their weddings\, more than a few hands went up. \nAdding to the evening’s excitement\, it was announced that Jimmy Sturr will be inducted into the S.S. Seward Institute Hall of Fame this October—a well-deserved honor. \nThe night was rounded out with a feast catered by Amanda of Table 21 in Pine Island and desserts from Janet’s Quality Baked Goods in Florida\, some adorned with Sturr’s photo. Guests lingered as Jimmy signed autographs\, many expressing hopes that “Part III” will return next year.
